Capacitive touchscreens are ideally suited to many industrial applications due to their robustness and ease of operation. Capacitive touchscreens are generally designed to detect a finger or conductive stylus on the screen. However when gloves are warn this adds a non-conductive barrier which may mean the finger can no longer be detected. The TouchNetix team have developed and tuned industrial touchscreen technology to eliminate such issues on numerous designs, configuring touchscreens to be responsive even when thick industrial gloves are worn.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can seriously affect the performance of a projected capacitive touchscreen, potentially limiting its use in some industrial designs. TouchNetix bespoke design and simulation tools combined with expertise in tuning ensures modules meet the rigorous requirements of the EN61000 4-6 Class A electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) specification.
In industrial scenarios, moisture and dirt can often be transferred onto the touchscreen and it is important that this doesn’t cause any unexpected behaviour. If a touchscreen is not designed or set up correctly such contaminants may appear as ‘false touches’ on the screen causing potentially dangerous situations. Solutions provided by TouchNetix will not fail in this way and depending on the type of contaminant will either ignore it and continue to operate normally or resume normal operation once the screen is cleared of the contamination.
